Artlink are delighted to host an exhibition of paintings by Paul Kerr.  who has been resident artist with Artlink since January 2008. He began his residency creating new work, based in Artlink’s studio, Tullyarvan Mill. During this time his work was pictorially colourful with symbolic references. More recently, Paul has been based at Fort Dunree where inspiration from the surrounding environment is evident from the texture and colour of the layered paint.

Paul was born in 1965 in Dungannon in the north of Ireland. His love for painting and drawing began in his early teens. By the time he was 16, it was to be an all-consuming passion. In the mid nineties Paul moved to Dublin determined to devote his time to art, and has been painting professionally since then.

The Somewhere Else exhibition will feature paintings produced before and during his time at Fort Dunree bringing together the varied sources that inspire him – nature, literature and perhaps even the essence of our being – spirituality.

"I chose the title "Somewhere Else" to give an idea of the effect this amazing place has had on me and how it has crept into my work. It wasn’t so much the natural beauty of the area that got to me, but rather the way that time and nature was breaking down and reclaiming everything around."

Paul has exhibited throughout Ireland as well as taking part in shows in London, New York, Florence, Milan, Sidney, and Beijing. Paul’s work is in Irish and International collections including the Irish Government – Office of Public Works.

His online exhibition hosted by the Dublin in 2003 resulted in an Omni award.
